Prof. Eberhard Jochem emeritiert

Prof. Eberhard Jochem, einer der Gründer und Leiter des CEPE, wurde zum 1. August 2007 emeritiert. Er wird weiterhin Forschung am CEPE betreiben und seine verbleibenden Doktoranden im Laufe des kommenden Jahres promovieren. Sein Nachfolger, Prof. Dr. Thomas F. Rutherford, bisher „Adjoint Professor of Economics“ an der University of Colorado in Boulder, wird zum 1. Januar 2008 seine Arbeit aufnehmen.

Markus Balmer has joinded the BKW FMB Energie AG in Bern as an energy economist.

Part of the team for Strategy and Energy Economics, some of his main responsabilities are the electricity price forecasting and the assessment of energy technologies including profitability validation and portfolio analysis. Until the end of 2007 he will still be part of CEPE in order to finish his PhD.

Award for Prof. Eberhard Jochem

Prof. Eberhard Jochem received an award from Fondazione Energia and Gestore Servizi Elettrici for his outstanding contributions in the field of "Commitment to sustainable development" on the occasion of the 9^th IAEE Energy Conference "Energy Markets and Sustainability in a Larger Europe" held in Florence in June 2007. It is the first time this award has been presented.

During an early morning public presentation on March 30th, Martin Jakob successfully defended his doctoral dissertation on "Economics of Energy Efficiency in Residential Buildings." Dr. Jakob is CEPE's second PhD graduate in 2007.

February 2007

Prof. Eberhard Jochem wurde von der UN Foundation eingeladen, zusammen mit seinem chinesischen Kollegen Prof. Zhou Dadi die Leitung eines internationalen Wissenschaftsteams zu übernehmen, das Empfehlungen zur Energieeffizienz-Politik für die G8-Länder und die Plus5-Länder erarbeiten soll. Die Gruppe hat bereits eine erste Zielempfehlung erarbeitet: die Verbesserung der Energieproduktivität der G8-Staaten um jährlich 2 % - 2,5 % bis 2020.

Prof. Eberhard Jochem was invited by the UN Foundation to co-chair together with his colleague Prof. Zhou Dadi a writing team of international scientists. This should develop recommendations for the energy efficiency policy for the G8 countries and Plus5 countries. The team already has recommended a target: the improvement of the energy productivity of G8 countries by 2.0 to 2.5 % per year.

Andreas Kemmler successfully defended his PhD thesis on "Characteristics of Energy Access to the Poor and to Impoverished Regioons in India"

Prof. Eberhard Jochem has been selected as a co-editor for the industry sector of "Energy Efficiency", a new international reviewed journal that will be published by Springer starting from January 2008.

Eberhard Jochem was elected on September 28 as an individual member of the Swiss Academy of Engineering Sciences (SATW) for his merits in the fields of energy efficiency and renewable energy from a technical, economic and policy point of view. Moreover, he was elected on September 13 as head of the scientific board of the Institut für Solare Energieversorgungstechnik (ISET) in Kassel, Germany.

On 20 April 2004, the most recently published report "Steps towards a sustainable development - A White Book for R&D of energy-efficient technologies was presented to Mr. F. Lamoureaux, Director General of the DG Energy and Transport of the European Commission, by Eberhard Jochem, lead author of the White Book. The objective of this 60 pages condensed report was to clarify the question whether a reduction of energy use per capita by two thirds within five decades would be possible prom a technical, natural science and behavioural science point of view. 1 Dec 2000	Neuer Mitarbeiter: Zur CEPE-Crew stösst neu Martin Jakob, Dipl. Phys. Ing. ETH. Er wird Projekte im Bereich Rationelle Energieanwendung und Energiewirtschaft bearbeiten. Zugleich startet er seine Doktorarbeit im Themenbereich der Kostenschätzung neuer Technologien der Energieeffizienz. Martin Jakob hält dabei Kontakt mit den Kollegen des GaBE-Projektes und der Gruppe Energieökonomie des PSI, eine der drei Trägerorganisationen des CEPE.

Daniel Spreng wurde mit den Zuständigkeitsbereich internationale Beziehungen ebenfalls in den SAEE-Vorstand gewählt. Ausserdem wurde beschlossen, das Sekretariat der SAEE per 1. Januar 2001 ans CEPE zu verlegen.
