ETH Life

Energy services contribute enormously to humanity’s well-being. Producing energy in an efficient and environmentally friendly manner is a challenge for society as a whole.
The Centre for Energy Policy and Economics (CEPE) was established in 1999 to enlarge the natural science and technically oriented disciplinary spectrum of the ETH domain by contributing to research and teaching in energy policy and economics. The thematic focus on energy includes both energy supply and energy demand using mainly microeconomics theory and empirical methods.

Through its national and international research and advisory activities, CEPE contributes to the scientific community by developing and applying new empirical methods and seeks to improve the bases for decisionmaking by business and government with analyses of energy economics and policy issues, the drafting of energy policy options and scientific analyses of energy policy programs. In addition, CEPE educates students at the Swiss Federal Institutes of Technology in Zürich by providing a curriculum of lectures and seminars as well as colloquia on energy policy and economics.
